Hi i am an engg student and i am interested in finding or devicing a relatively cheaper and efficient anti-biofouling agent or paint on a laboratory scale at first. could you please suggest the raw materials required for this purpose. they should be easily available in market, moderately priced and should effectively assist in my purpose. You don't describe your intended application.

Is it for marine use?

An industrial or other application?

You are embarking on a quest that has been and is now, the goal of a great deal of investigation and research due to the huge adverse economic consequences to especially the maritime industry, but others as well. This subject has been greatly complicated of late by environmental restrictions on what substances may be used in coatings, as many are toxic to the environment.

A link to a company that pioneered an environmentally friendly anti-biofouling coating using a "self polishing" polymer that does not allow biofouling organisms to readily adhere (which may furnish you with some ideas on how you might proceed) is:

The best materials for this have been outlawed for environmental reasons. So make sure you do not re-invent a banned wheel.

thanku sir 4 ur valuable information. My intention is to go for antifouling solutions for marine use. i am quite aware of the banned antifouling coatings like TBT n this research is wholly centered around environment-friendly non-toxic solutions like the self-polishing coatings.
