Spring Material Uncoiler

01/07/2010 9:05 AM

Hello,

I am looking for some info for a spring wire material uncoiler machine. The spring wire material we have is on a metal reel weighing 1000 lbs and delivered oriented vertically in a metal rack. We need to move the spring wire material from the metal rack to the uncoiler machine oriented vertically. We are pulling the spring wire material a length of 20 in. everytime, which means that there must be a motor that rotates the metal reel with the corresponding length.

As far as the uncoiling goes; I would a mechanism that pulls the wire. The wire is in a round roll, and the angle of rotation will change with changes in the diamater. At the beginning of the coil the angle of rotation will be much less than towards the end of the coil. So I suggest sizing the mechanism that is pulling the wire such that it will generate the necessary rotation. Maybe it requires a more powerful pulling mechanism and or a coil rack that spins easier.

Hi constrictor1,

When you get the coil wire holder with the wire on it, the end of the wirethat was last rolled onto the bobbin, should be fixed by poking it through a hole in the bobbin and or tapping or fixing it in some way to the side of the bobbin nearest the last wire wound on.

You should take care when getting ready to feed the wire to wherever it has to go. Do not let it go or you can end up with a nasty tangle, as you may realise?

It only takes the end to slip under one or two of the other windings to get you in a really nasty tangle which may not be able to be undone by any machine.

But as asked I have listed a search site which in turn lists makers.

See below:

Take care

Coilers/Uncoilers are fairly common.

search used machinery sites and these apparatus' are available.

probably take a little modification to fit specific need but what doesnt?
