House Trap and Vent or Fresh Air Intake

01/07/2010 1:43 PM

Hi a Plumbing

Hi a Plumbing Question.

What is the purpose of a Vent or Fresh Air Intake right before a House Trap?

Is it to allow air to exit before waste water hits the House Trap or other?

Thanks and a Happy New Year to all.

To allow the air in the lines that the water replacing to escape. If air is trapped in the lines it would have to go some where. The only other route would be through the water that is replacing it. Which would slow drainage from the source. This air in the lines if not harmful can smell pretty bad so you would not want it in your living spaces. Its vented to the outside.
