Grinder Feed Rates

01/11/2010 8:18 AM

Can anyone let me know what is feedrate in grinding?

Why there is difference between formulas for calculate federate in center less through grinding And microcentric plunge grinding.

Formula are as follows:-

For centerless

Feedrate=Pie* Dia.of regulating wheel*speed of reg.wheel*sin(angle of regulating wheel)/60

For plunge grind

Feedrate=thickness /time

During a centerless through grinding process, the workpiece traverses a width of contact wheel (or belt) for progressive reduction thanks to a compressible control wheel.

During microcentric plunge grinding, there is no traverse across the abrasive medium, instead there is tangential follow-up motion and pressure from the control wheel.

That centerless process has merely a proportion of the workpiece axial length, progressing across the contact wheel (or belt) at any time. By contrast, the full length of the workpiece is always engaged in the microcentric process and there is no length-axis progression.

Very different pressures and procedures, so there are very different feedrates needed.
