Using a so-called suspended animation technique, scientists at the Safar Centre in Pittsburgh emptied the dead animals' veins of blood and filled them with ice-cold saline solution to preserve the tissues and organs.

The question is can someone who is clinically brain-dead be preserved until they can be patched up to keep brain loss to a minimum?
