Cell phone tower

01/17/2010 3:09 AM

Hi everybody.....

I'm planning to design a low cost cell phone tower, and for that purpose I need the details of the transmitters and recievers fitted on the tower.

The detail should include:

1)The name of the companies manufacturing such antennas and their product info on internet .(if you can provide any link that would be wonderful)

2)What are the different types of antennas are used presently and what are the benefits of using one over another.?

3)Which all companies are providing such services??

4)This question is not much relevant to the current topic but still I want to confirm my answer.

how does the height of a cell phone tower affect the coverage area and connectivity in a particular area ?Suppose If we mange to increase the height of tower to 200 mtrs approximately ..will One tower will suffice the signal requirement of a town of 10 km radius??

thank you ...!!!

Much more information about what you are intending to do.

With what you have included, I can remark this:

Guyed towers are generally less expensive than free-standing towers.

The height of a tower will determine antenna specifications (e.g. down-tilt).

A 600 ft tower would probably not lend well in serving a coverage area of that size. Important are a number of factors such as number of mobiles to serve, terrain, actual scope of the area, and other. Just a stab in the dark, I would say at least several cell sites would be required.

None of your questions are really easy to answer. What country and area are you referring to?

Have you tried in googling the subjects you desire?

Bottom line: A cellular communications consultant is what you need.

@BILL ML

thanks a ton for your reply.....

well,I'm from India. And I'm planning it for to work in plains.....so that the signal from a tower of that height will to kms....

Again coming to the basics that the main tower in any town communicates with all auxiliary towers and transfer their calls to the hub via optical wires. this indicates that the capacity of the main tower is sufficient to cover all calls in any town.the height of the main tower is not more than 100 fts in any case.if the height of the main tower is increased to 600ft then it should be able to take the calls of users directly without any help of auxiliary towers ......other thing is that I'm talking abt small towns and plains so that not much obstruction offered. we might need to erect some more for bigger towns. My idea is that will increasing the height of tower will help in any way ???will it help in reducing the number of auxiliary towers????

Well...I'm looking for a consultant as well...anyways thanking u again for ur reply...

Magic Jack has just come out with one for home use to eliminate minute usage while at home. The write up/ release was on the internet last week or so. They release it at the trade show in Legas.

Good Luck

To address some of your questions: Obviously the higher the tower and antennas, the better the coverage area. All this depends highly on what the land layout is like, mountains, buildings, trees, etc. To properly assist in this endeavor, one will have to conduct a site-survey. From there many of the blanks can be filled in and you can acheive an economical solution to your problem. You can get stand alone towers, poles and guyed towers. I'd say poles are the least expensive, but you'll need to know various factors such as load, wind, etc. Guyed towers require more space . There are many standalone towers available now that are good and are inexpensive. As far as antennas, we'll need to know what kind of cell network you plan on building. Are band are we talking?

This is a start but we need location, cell network type, etc to move on.
