Cables and Wires Labelling Standard

01/19/2010 9:11 AM

I am working on a power distribution design. I want to label the cables in a meaningful way, so the label contain useful information (eg.: cable type, size, cores, voltage, from/to etc) at the same time easily identifiable (eg.: unique tag+ Cable from/To ---> PW0021-MSB1/MCC1 ).

Is there any BS standard (or ANSI/NEMA standard) which specifies such labelling format?

Can someone advise any of the following standards specify such format, so I can purchase them? BS EN 50334, BS EN 60445, BS EN 60446, BS 3858?

Appreciate your reply. But they are printing machines.

I am looking for an international standard which specify power cable numbering format.

For example, ANSI/TIA/EIA 606A specifies Data centres / telecommunication systems wire identification format.

Regards.

I think that the format for printing is not embedded in their HW or SW. You have to give the full marking text to print on the cable lengthwise or on a lable for sticking.

These may be Batch printing or as per requirement.

I had been using different labelling machines some 10 years back and in 1990s these were quite helpful 7 fast.

Now it may be possible that you select a format but you have to feed the data for each type of cable manually or pre-record dataand automate.

Any how look for machines & their detailed data from the manufacturer's website or ask for it.

have fine day !

I don't think there is an international standard. The systems we see are either sequential or are related to the dis boards. Please keep us informed if you find anything.

I came across a US navy document with the kind of system i think you are looking for but unfortunately I did not save it.
