Sand Blasting Data Required

01/19/2010 1:37 PM

We are developing a sand blasting media engineered from recyclable plastic that will compete with 3 or 4 existing medias currently on the market. To help us position this product and help us have an understanding of the actual size of the market could someone assist us with the following 2 market data questions. 1.) What is the total annual US tonnage of ALL blasting media sold in ther last 12 months. and 2.) What is the specific annual tonnage for Garnet , Alox , Glass beads , Black Beauty?

Is there reference material where we may find this info. Help.

Plastic media blasting has been around for a while...

This new media of yours, is it in conformance with Mil-Spec MIL-P-85891? If yes:

One example of available volume, in 1993 and 1994, at Kelly AFB, Texas, the U.S. Air Force stripped (in preparation for re-coating) 100 ea C-5 aircraft with PBM. Estimated cost of blast media for that project alone: $1,040,000.00 (1994 US dollars).

While I have no information regarding your other questions, it appears there may be a pretty large market available, especially now that EVERYBODY wants on the green wagon. The PBM method eliminated 144,000 gallons of methylene chloride (paint stripper previously used) consumption, this project alone. Substantial benefit for the environment, I say.

Now, I will tell you your question sounds like homework; thus, the older data. If you can make us believe truly an economic venture, I (or someone) may discuss or reveal more.
