Evinrude need help

01/23/2010 1:02 AM

I am having trouble with our Evinrude 15hp boat motor. It starts fine first thing then after we have been sitting fishing it won't start. Sometimes we can eventually get it going but we had to row 1.5kms the other day and I'm at a stage in my life where muscle growth is not big on my list of things to achieve. I would really appreciate any tips anyone may have. The motor has been serviced regularly. We have always been careful not to use old fuel and flush it after each trip.

You have flooding symptoms. To check this, when you want to stop the motor, unplug the fuel line and let the motor die out. If this makes your problem go away, have the carburetor rebuilt.

We build fast custom RIBs - see www.explorermarine.co.uk - and are Evinrude dealers - though now they are all electronic direct injection and computers.

I would do a few simple tests on the spark plug - back at the dock - to determine whether it is flooding on hot start, Choke, spark etc?.

I also use another good forum at : www.boatdesignnet.com and list under outboards.

Good luck

Hi,

Couldn't find the site using the link provided.

Try this:

Have the coils checked usually a coil will act-up when it gets hot!

Thank you to everyone for all your help. We took the boat down the shed last night to flush the motor and check it out and unfortunately/fortunately the motor ran perfectly for my Hubby. Apparently I had been starting it wrong...a simple error, which made it difficult for the motor to turn over. Now hoping my rowing days are over and I'm going to get it back in the water this week. Thanks again for all your advice, which I have copied and saved in case I need it in the future.
