01/24/2010 6:43 AM

Hello Friends.

why Some Bikes (i.e. Two Wheelers) having gear Box operating systems that operate first Gear at front and Remaining at back ?

It's also observed that Such Bikes have more "pick up" than other( that are having gear operating system either at back or front).why is it so?

what is its purpose?

Thank in advance

front gears and rear gears in combination provide more gearing possibilities than just the sum of the front and rear gears.

Traditionally, bikes are marketed as having a number of gears equal to the product of the number of front gears and rear gears. A bike with 3 front gears and 7 rear gears is said to have 21 gears or speeds.

In practice fewer gears than the product of front and rear are usually available. Some ratios may be repeated. Almost always, and togreater extent with shorter rear deraileurs, the smallest rear gears should not be used with the smallest front gear, and more critically, the largest rear gears should not be used with the largest front gear.
