I hate to say it-but---'It depends' Some 'high temp' lubes will not carbureize (sp?)--especially those formulated with 'soft metals' such as lead, copper, silver, phosphate and other minerals. Organic materials will oxidize starting at 400F, and completely by 1000F. Some 'high temp' lubricants are really easily torn mineral layers deposited on the underlying metal. Graphite is such a common material, but mica, silica, numerous metals, and 'reacted surfaces' such as 'phosphated', Parkerized, etc.may be 'hard' and very resistant to welding or scoring, and of course Moly-sulphide is a widely used high temp lubricant.
