Mobile Battery for Solar Panels

02/04/2010 1:59 PM

Hi i need your help, I am building a project of charging a mobile battery with solar panels. For this i am using AT89S52 Micro controller. As i want the solar panels to turn around where there is most of the sunlight falling i am using photo resistors. I am using 2 photo resistors each at one end of the solar panel. These photo resistors cant be directly connected to AT89S52 so i am using PIC16F877A where i can use the 2 analog comparators to compare which photo resistor gives the maximum output current. Then this value is passed from the PIC16F877A to AT89S52.Is this correct??

I was also thinking that i could add a gps and a signal booster to this project and make it as 1 complete kit.

And i would really appreciate if you can guide me how to go ahead with this project as i don't have any idea about the circuit diagrams and components to be used.

With Regards,Thank you.

The PIC is able to control the solar panel all by itself. Unless you need the AT89S52 for some other functions, I'd lose it.

Thanks for your reply.

I want to use AT89S52 not the PIC. And I was recommended to use ADC instead of using PIC. So how should I use the ADC with photoresistor's output pin and how to use this value to

make it as an input to the AT89S52 and change its programme for the steppermotor.

Kindly help me out with this too.

With warm regards,

Thank you.

I agree with Bhankiii. The charging circuit is not to complicated even if you chose to PWM the voltage. I would recommend strapping a thermistor to the battery to prevent over charging.

Hi, check out the www.redrok.com site, there is a lot of information about solartracking, batterycharging etc.

best of luck to you, moe

Thanks for all your replies, it was really helpful, but now another problem arises.
I have been instructed by my university to use AT89S52 not the PIC. And I was recommended to use ADC instead of using PIC. So how should I use the ADC with photoresistor's output pin and how to use this value to make it as an input to the AT89S52 and change its programme for the steppermotor.??

Kindly help me out with this too.

With warm regards,

Thank you.
