Vinyl Floors and Electric Shocks

02/05/2010 1:34 AM

Hello,

I have just installed a vinyl floor made of PVC interlocking slabs 5 mm thick on top of an old epoxy floor. The floor is causing static generated on the employees in the room, causing them small electrtic shocks when they touch metal objects in the room. Apart from taking out the floor and replacing it with anti-static material, do you know of any solution to this problem? Thanks for any suggestion.

You might try spraying the floor with a solution of fabric softener periodically.

Turn off the air conditioner.

The idea being, the air conditioner tends to dry the air, and the static problem is aggravated by dry air.

Or, install a humidifier...

Put a humidifier in the room. After evaluating several kinds, we found the type with the floating filters, as found in Sears, to be the most effective and reliable. I wouldn't bother with the atomizing types.

Add rubber soled shoes to your dress code.

Sorry but I believe this will only exacerbate the problem. Leather soled shoes could prove themself to be more usefull and not so hard for the anti-static products that you may end up spraying.

Use Downey in the spray bottle and spray area couple of times a day.

Good Luck

CLC Tech have a product called TC-1000 Topical Anti-Stat Spray. We used it on our non-anti-static carpets
