Final written report due by: May 3, 2010
Notification to finalists due by: June 15, 2010
Final round of the competition: Aug 15-18, 2010.

DESCRIPTION
The ASME Student Mechanism and Robot Design Competition is an excellent
opportunity for both undergraduate and graduate students to showcase their
abilities in designing mechanisms and robots.

This competition consists of two rounds: in round one, student(s) send a report on their design, and in round two, a few selected teams from round one are invited to the conference to present their design. Winners of the competition will be recognized during the Mechanisms and Robotics luncheon at the conference venue, and presented with awards, which in the past, have included both cash and software prizes.

The National Science Foundation has provided funding to support the travel costs of up to two participants from each design team that makes it to the final round. The funds will cover the ASME IDETC registration, hotel stay, transportation (airfare), and meals (on a per diem basis). Students from all US-based institutions are eligible for this.

The details on how to participate can be found at the contest website:

Note, the "Letter of Intent" need only be one page, similar to an abstract.

Also, entries that have been past school or work projects are acceptable, as
long as the student(s) can (1) claim the creative and intellectual effort and (2)
have a faculty advisor to vouch for them.

Please be encouraged to print out the flyer from the website and distribute it to
bulletin boards!

I look forward to a great competition!
