Calculating Stator Slot Depth

02/11/2010 7:02 AM

I need the stator slot depth to get the outer diameter of stator core. How do we calculate the stator slot depth?? I would appreciate if someone could help.

I am speaking out of my usual field, I wonder how there can be a given ratio of slot depth to outer diameter of generator? stators.

The slots are formed by the laminated punchings that form the stator core. The slot depth is calculated to accept the stator bars, filler pieces, insulating materials and slot wedges. The stator bars can be any thing from solid copper to hollow strands for water cooling. The insulation will vary as to the heat capability of the different insulating materials. Filler pieces may or may not be required. Slot wedges can be different sizes and materials.

I really don't see how you can calculate the outer diameter of the punchings or the depth of the slot without knowing all these things.

Of course I have been wrong before.

Hi Otha, thanks for the inputs.

Yeah, lots of things seem to inter-related. It is bit complex.
