Microstructural Differences in Aluminum Tube

01/30/2007 4:47 PM

Is there a difference in microstructure between extruded and drawn aluminum tube? I know the the microstructure will be elongated in both unless artificially aged? Are there other specific differences? Will I be able to differentiate by mounting, polishing, etching and examining with an optical or electron microscope?

If annealed after draw or extrusion, the aluminum latice structure will return to "normal". Quenching can be done to harden if you like.
