If you go to the microprocessor supplier sites, you will find that several of them have free software for circuit prototyping which will not only suggest IC's it will tell you if your design will work without building it. This is one, it's self explanitory if you don't mind the work. http://www.maxim-ic.com/design/ Once you find the IC you need, they will send you a free sample for the asking. However some of the companies wont send you anything unless you have a e-mail address from a company. A gmail, yahoo or hotmail address wont work. You can also try http://www.microchip.com/ they are great about sending samples for the asking. If you don't want to go through all of that you can go to http://www.matrixmultimedia.com/eblockstartpacks.php and use the e-block system. It is definitly worth checking out, the e-block system has IC's that plug into each other allowing you to configure and build any type of system you want. They also have the software to go with it....amazing stuff. Hope this helps.
