Career Path Decision

02/23/2010 10:51 AM

hi everybody, i hope u all r well .. i have some kind of confusion about the career i should choose after my graduation. I'm a mechanical engineer in the final year - Power department .. my study qualifies me to work in ref. and AC, power plants, piping .. etc ( any thing related to mechanical power) .. the problem is i can't really know what should i go with .. i know it seems crazy, but i haven't a favorite one !

The easiest way to know which one you favor...is to pick two of those disciplines and flip a coin. You will find one of two things happening.

1. You will be nonchalant about the result (meaning that's the one you wanted)

2. You will tell yourself "best of three" (meaning the opposite).

You may even find yourself hoping for one of the results. But all being said, there are plenty of career paths which encompass some of these disciplines, not just one. Good luck, you may not always find your optimum job the first time.

If you are going to be any kind of an engineer, in an English speaking country, practice writing English instead of "text".

Whichever you choose now, you will probably change later. I started in refineries, in Europe, post WW2; moved on to power, both fossil and nuke; then commercial buildings; and finished up in infrastructure. You ride the current wave until it collapses and then climb on one that is growing, etc.

If you need to find a job, I suggest applying at a design build firm (like CH2M Hill or URS or Fluor), its essentially working for a contract company only you work for them, so your employment is much more stable plus you get to work on a variety of projects. I (ChemE) worked for a few A&E firms in my day and have been involved in everything from power to food production to pharamceutical manufacture.

If you don't want to start working right away, you could join the Peace Corps or get involved with Engineers without Borders. That would allow you to travel internationally and still use your skills as an engineer. Of course, that is only if you have the financial resources as neither pay much or any in most cases, although I think they feed you. Good luck!

Get into renewable energy (solar, wind, tides, river current). There should be many opportunities in those areas.

OK, you asked for it.

In the real world, a resume is required.

You will need to list where you live, where you went to school, what degrees you obtained if any, your experience, your interests, where you live, whether you are willing to relocate, you health, and your references.

In the theoretical world, not so much.

Air conditioning, refrigeration and artificial climate conditioning,Heat exchangers are potential growth oriented disciplines and service scope. New buildings, soft ware solution industries, computerized work places, food storages, research institutions, renovations, A.C in transports and so on.

Hope your question contains the very answer.

Well dear Welcome to the real World!!Wake-up call is very important for you now..Sit down in peacfill place and think..If you are Mechanical engineer u have to note which area most suites you..

Are you capable of working on sites..Then go for construction EPC contractor.Lot of money u need little or no exp.Money foloows after 4 years.U spent ur life going to remote locations stay in camps.Ur life is wrecked after marriage..

If you want design..u can join companies who most of the time hire freshers but ur score card shoudl read good scores, they u fly high.If your score card is average go for 1st option then after 5 years join design

If you like to share your knowldge and show how smart u r..Then go for teaching.or professor.

And finally if you havent decided yet wht to do,,Then its time to chech ur ~~aura~~ that means u are not aware of wht ur sole wants..So in this case you have to do ur masters degree in engineering..TRsut me my frnd..I came to know what i want after i did my masters..Masters in engineering can bring true value what you have inside you and what u need to achieve in your life.Mechanical engineers are not meant to do MBA...
