Definitive Criterion for Cathodic Protection

02/26/2010 9:49 AM

A paper was presented at two conferences in Brazil last year saying that there is now a definitive criterion for cathodic protection that makes it possible to calculate if corrosion has stopped. The present criteria cannot be computerised as the half-cell is not used as a reference electrode in either CIPS or DCVG monitoring surveys. The alternative measuring method is an electrode arrangement similar to that used in laboratories during the studies that render values for the Pourbaix diagrams and other scientific theories that support the cathodic protection industry. These matters are all covered in the free training course at http://www.dynamic-cathodic-protection.com

This paper has now impacted globally and it to be presented in South Africa and Iran as a result of pipeline owners increasing corrosion leaks where the present criteria indicate thet there is protection.

For over 30 years a monopoly has dominated the cathodic protection industry and ignored serious scientific investigation into the subject of measuring the effectiveness of cathodic protection in stopping corrosion.

We now face a situation in which that monopoly has somehow guided the whole of industry into insisting that their own qualifications are the only ones acceptable to major pipeline owners and operators who are consequently following advice that can be demonstrated to be wrong. It does not and cannot work.

The definitive criterion for cathodic protection is being actively blocked by this monopoly who wield influence and power at the level where they can manipulate the specifications of contract work and block any opinions or hard evidence that does not fit in with their commercial aims.

I was recently told by an experienced and active practitioner of this monopolies methods that cathodic protection is not about stopping corrosion but making money and that he had invested heavily in a bt of paper that allows him to get work anywhere in the world. He would like to promote the true science but cannot.

Lets have some simple answers from the monopoly and questions from pipeline operators, pipeline owners, national standards organisations and self-appointed specialists and experts on this subject.
