A hub broadcasts all input received out to all connected paths without regard to best path or equipment identity.

A router uses a table of device and destination information to select the best path to forward an electronic info 'packet' it receives. Usually is associated with or an integrated part of a gateway device or switch.

As you might imagine, one is better at conservation of resources and tracking packets.
