Master-Slave Load Sharing Application

Dear All

Need some info on How to do the master slave application for current sharing. Like Master will take 50 % of load( Current) and slave will take 50 %. Using AC drives.

Which drive will run in speed mode and which in torque ? How to give speed ref. and torque ref?

The way I've done it is to have the Master in speed follower mode, then take an analog out of the master motor torque and feed it to the slave in torque follower mode as a torque reference signal. It isn't perfect, but I get within 2% most of the time. I've done it with Siemens Sinamics G150 drives, I have also done it with other brands and other Siemens drive models but I found the Sinamics to be a little more accurate.

I started off doing it with a brand called PDL out of New Zealand and they did the communications between drives via a fiber optics link. It was a little more accurate because it was noise free. PDL no longer exists (bought by Schneider and shut down), but ABB also has the ability to do fiber optic comms between drives, I just have not had an opportunity to use them yet.

Please can you add application information and details as schemes for common shaft, long overhead conveyors or transfer mechanisms can be different and no one scheme suits all?

Is it two motors only? Are they identical and is there any difference how/where they are coupled to the load and by what method (direct, indirect etc)

Think about general needs, size of motors involved, how quickly the load changes and time to rebalance the system, what range of speed is involved et al. opern loop or closed loop?
