Retrieving Items from Multi-Tiered Liquid Nitrogen Tanks

03/03/2010 10:28 AM

I wonder if anyone knows where "grabbing" tools for retrieving materials in lower levels of multiple tier liquid nitrogen tanks can be obtained? I am having a difficult time locating any companies that manufacture these. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thank you

Is this a regular problem or have you dropped something?

Would a magnet on a piece of suitable cord do the trick?

How big are/is the items/material?

How far down do you need to reach?

How easy is access?

Are you thinking of making something? Should you be?

I wonder why someone would drop something into a tank of LN2, unless you wanted it to stay there...

I've been trying to figure out what "Multi-Tiered" means. I'm guessing that the "items" are held on "shelves" attached to a central shaft which protrudes above the surface:-

The "items" might be biological samples or something. If one of the containers has fallen off a shelf, you can't get the "holder" back in the tank.

Pure speculation.
