Black Rairoad Train Engineers

03/16/2010 5:55 PM

HELP!!!! ANYONE? I have been asked to make a presentation on Black train engineers or inventors contributing to the train engineering field. Other than Granville T. Woods and Elijah McCoy, I can't seem to find anyone. I need this ASAP. I am in College Station, TX and would also like to have some local names. I am presenting this to kids from six to ten years old. Need some good stories that would be interestng to children of that age bracket. You may view my site at: www.ethaemm.com to determine that I am not nut case - smile-

Thanks to all who contribute. You will also receive recognition for your help.

Hello,

Andrew Beard from Woodland, AL, invented and patented the Jenny coupler for hooking railroad cars together.

Just found this list of African-American railway inventors (http://www.inventions.org/culture/african/railway.html - sorry, link no longer available) and their inventions.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

I am so grateful to each of you. Now, I'm going to research for pictures of the people and trains and make a display. I'm really excited about this. I'll try to post the results on my web site.. Don't forget to visit my site, www.ethaemm.com and sign my visitors' book.

Again, thanks to each who replied. If you find something else, I'll use it. I still want to offer recognition.
