Cross Section Area = Normal Current / Current density

Current Density for Aluminium busbar = 120 A/(cm sq)

for copper i dont know.

This formula is based on normal current rating and permissible temperature rise.

In Saudi, with higher than normal environment temp.s best not to use 'rule of thumb' sizing.

In the USA we used to use 1000A./sq. in for copper and 800 for Aluminum, as 'rule of thumb' for smaller units, but for 2000A. and over, we calculate on the basis of heat dissipation where air flow and bus configuration factor in.
