Combustion Equipment

the exact right size oriface for pressure, quality, and excess air , is by far the correct way to go. It assures for for the most part that the incomplete combustion WILL, I REPEAT WILL be reduced as much as possible, With 20 to 30% reduction in nat gas.and huge reduction in C O . Taking more time to heat up is a very small price to pay. And equipment with safty pilot lighting, can always be optimized for altitude. Master tradesmen should pick up on this fact and go back to optimizing and testing all gas burning equipment. (long time ago) That is a great opportunity for the return of a better apprentice program. The gas company in every town used to "demand" de-rating of equipment, AND the owners manuel told us exactly how to do it. (where did that go?) Years gon by, the range/oven was tested for C O and adjusted for altitude because it had a much better and more expensive burner/oriface assembly.

Yes, and you used to get milk delivered to your door every morning. Those days are long gone, never to return.

The modern consumer has far more important things to worry about. Like:

Who's on Oprah, which reality show's on tonight. Oh almost forgot, American Idol.

You know, IMPORTANT stuff!

And the ever inflammatory DST debate.

Cheers.

why does the master plumbing trade and the inspectors not require inspections on heat, except for make up air and flue piping and gas piping. Mass. is still the only state where you must be a master, and pull a permit. They still seem to care about appliance efficiency, even though they aren't at much altitude.

Old mining towns in the mountains , have inversions which trap the air. Those towns should invest in optimizing.
