Solar PV Installation and the SCE CREST Program

03/25/2010 9:13 PM

Greetings all,

Does anybody have any experience using the CREST program through SCE (southern California Edison)? Getting a power purchase agreement and self installation? Does it pay enough to be profitable ona 250Kw-1.5Mw scale? Apx $.09/kw/hr Thanks for your consideration. Spacecannon

Hum, not too many replies... May be that would have to do with the cost of PV, which should provide the answer to your question. I am pretty sure that if I was to google the current cost of such installation (250 kW to 1.5MW), as compared to the .09c/kWh, I would still be trown off my chair. The exercise will get more worthwhile in time, as PV technology evolves towards lower costs and your local energy cost goes up, allowing your utility to better its offer. In the mean time, I suppose that in your area and on an individual home level, a solar "intervention" could be easily and profitably envisionned.

It is profitable with about a 7.5 to 10 percent return on your investment. SCE pays more during peak hours which is also when you can make the most power! Don't listen to negative people that would rather burn oil because they can't see past the SUV in front of them!

Guest,

Thanks for the supportive opinion, since it has been a few months since I asked that I have been able to get an education. the average annual pay per watt in my area given the peak power etc., comes to aprox .13/watt. I've been able to create a plan where the build cost is aprox .10/watt, so this project is a go if all the paperwork and approvals can be acheived.
