Cast Iron for High-Temperature Applications?

Please suggest me.

one of my vendor is offering Cast iron as Material of contruction for gear box.

whether cast iron is suitable for high temperature applications.

You need to put numbers to your question. What type of gearbox, how much power will be transmitted, what do you consider "high temperature".

Cast iron is extensively used for cooking pots - is that high temperaure?

Can it be used for gearbox - yes. Would I use it for gearboxes that I require on my plant - No.

Dear Sir,

Gear box casing : Yes

Gears : Can't say as we do not know the maximum temperature.
