Mini Circuit Breaker Remote Tripping

04/03/2010 4:09 PM

http://stevenengineering.com/Tech_Support/PDFs/45MULIT960N120N.pdf

PAGE 11 12 ... AUXİLLARY PARTS

Here we can see auxillary parts such as aux. contacts undervoltage coil and remote trip coil etc.. As we see these are MCB so how can a remote coil make a circuit breaker trip while it is mounted in 5 10 cm apart from it? İs it mechanically or something else? (I know the air circuit breakers can be remote tripped with a coil coupled to its mechanism..)

Also please tell me how these auxillary parts will be coupled to MCB or RCD? anything like handle ties?

the contacts are mechanically connected .....if u ve seen mcb, sd,of ,mn or mx contacts then u wouldnt have asked this......the remote tripping is done with mx or mn coils...mn is a undervoltage coil which will trip the mcb when voltage drops below (0.7 supply voltage). and mx is a shunt trip coil which will trip the mcb once it s energised through a power supply..........remote tripping is done through a NO or NC switch linked to mx or mn coils........

Now I see apart from MCB many auxillary parts and what I cant understand is how say a shunt trip will trip the MCB?

It is mounted next to MCB and you sent the signal to the shunt trip ok? So this shunt trip coil will generate a mechanical movement true? so how this part will effect the position of a mcb? I ask this in fact.

Every page on the net as you tell the way how a shunt trip coil will operate but dont show how it will make a MCB operate.

Please tell me how they are linkaged...

when the shunt coil receives a signal , it will get energised and the contacts in it will move from its original position. these contacts are mechanically linked to contacts of mcb (if u visit a switchgear or panel manufacturing industry u will know in detail.)....so wen the contacts move (trip) in the shunt coil they will inturn trip mcb.....i cant explain more than this....u ll ve see them to know them

I think u speak of big circuit breaker. For them speaking I know how these coil are linked to mechanism of CİRCUİT BREAKER

I am asking of MCB s and as u can see from the file they are mounted next to each other and I cant see how can these contacts are linked...

Shamith,

No need to be rude, you can just resign from answering, you are not obliged, we are all here posting in a good will to help each other.

JINXNAO,

for the original question, on the left side of the MCb there is a hole, when you add a shunt trip, a pin from the shunt trip enter into this hole, and when energized this pin hit the mechanism of the breaker making it to trip,

I hope my answer was helpful. SAMITH gave you the right answer also but has not enough patience to follow it.

dear noble, I think I have much more ability of understanding than the guy u mentioned I have no doubt in that.

What u told me was very clear and nice opposed to what that guy told:)

İt is very easy to say the mechanisms are linked, but as you have proved it is easier than this to explain the essence of the fact. Thank you for your explanation. I thnik some guys need to have read the questions and what they ask then they can be helpful for us....

In fact it doesnt hurt me not to be able to extract from your sentences the holes near the mbc's (As mr. noble nicely explained). I am not genius , if you are so congratulations to you. I at the beginning implied that I dont KNOW the linkage so there is no need to be SURE that Mr. Jinxnao have no idea on this issue. Anyway I really appreciate the people who want to be really helpful. I am not student I am engineer but I am not involved in application , I just keep on reading sometimes technical papers. I serve my nation as officer. By the way mr.Noble you are really kind. I hope we will exchange our experiences in the future . I render my best regards...

Who is at fault? The one who cannot understand, or the one who cannot explain. Patience is a virtue.
