Plastic recycling

04/05/2010 3:25 AM

+Given a mixed container of various plastics parts, does anyone have a method of easilly identifying the different materials. This is based on the assumption that the plastic type label or identification is not visible on the parts.

Regards

John

Short answer, no. There may be some plastics that you know by the form, such as bottles that are made from PET/PETG, and there are flame tests where you burn a small piece and smell(carefully) the smoke for unique qualities. That takes lots of time to learn though.

Difference materials react differently to various solvents, but that's not reliable either.

So, we're back to no.

Here's another thread on the subject:Recycling Plastics

Sorry.
