Dear Good people,

I drive a toyota premio with a D4 engine.I have noticed after doing 100kph for sometime, when i slow down or brake, the engine does not iddle but goes off.The car has to be restarted every time it goes. What is the cause of this problem? Is it ignition or sensors or fuel fillter problems.Colleagues tell me is an inherent problem with D4 engine. Please help.

Tricky with a modern car, in the old days, you'd have just stripped the carb.
I had a v similar problem in a 2litre Citroen Xantia <spits on floor> Main dealer garage couldn't fix it 'cos they just believe the engine management computer and change boxes.
In the end I stripped down the air intake throttle assembly and rinsed it all out, there wer tiny bypass airways that were blocked. Ran sweet as a nut after that.
Interestingly I went back to the garage and told them the exact problem...were they interested in logging the fault/symptoms on their system? (send your answers to 'Dowegiveadamn.Citroen.com' )
Then the clutch cable went and it was a half day in a garage to change it..what sort of imbecillic design is that? Anyhow the garage foreman warned me that the hydro suspension was on it's way out... so I traded it in ASAP.

The moral is, if it's not under warranty you are stuffed, unless you do it yourself..
If it is under warranty, you are still probably stuffed for labour costs for guys who take twice as long to find the problem as the yshould and change half the systems in car regardless of the problem.

Wait, I know the answer to this one. The floor mat is not far enough under the accelerator pedal.

I had exactly the same problem years ago adapting a gas system to the gasoline engine (old P505), the solution was incredible simple and i 've not way to justify that, but it worked: the technician just removed a short hose that works connecting front of car with the air filter.-

please describe in details how you brake or slow down.

release acclerator...

or

release accelerator and then your foot on brake...

try to do it again so you can actually describe car response to your actions.

then we will think about its behaivour.

If you are getting engine error codes, analyse these for indications to your problem.Usually a loose vacuum line is the culprit, or the Idle Air Compensator Valve could be bad. Also, someone may have misadjusted the idle speed screw setting.

Check forums for your specific model.Plenty of help there.Simply Google "Toyota Premio Forums" ,or Toyota forums, which may have a submenu to your model. Chances are, someone else with the exact model had the exact same problem.

Hi

Simple, that is just semi-clodges fuel system caused by contaminated fuel, the sensor heads are partial covered by dirt, carbon etc.It can easily be rectified only by cleaning the fuel system around the engine compartment by only qualified personnel.

Maintainance must be observed for day to day running;

*Blow air cleaner element to keep enough airation through

*Maintain a standard minimum level of fuel in the tank ie not run empty tank all time.

If well maintained, you can even drive at 180kmh and then Idle with no problem.

NB:Remember D4 engine was introduced about 12yrs back to improve on fuel combustion efficiency, the very clever Japanese who produced all the previous engines.

Unfortunately I dont know where you are axactly in order to help you out.

I had similar problem in 2009 with D4 Premio. Apart from poor idling where the car would stall in traffic and make me sweat beads, the engine caused me a signiicant number of scares when the engine would decide to go bersek and accelerate itself beyond 6000rpm. Diagnosis at the garage took a long time with lots of trial and errors but then the final verdict revealed that the car engine had faulty sensors. Several times I took it to the garage for tuning of the idling.

One day the mechanic told me to trade it coz if the pressure system malfunctioned in the future it would cost me an arm and a leg. One evening while mulling on these prospects I rolled while coming from a drinking binge......was left with injuries but who knows? This saved me the trouble of constant torment from a motor machine that was never meant to be!
