more power on-time

04/12/2010 1:53 AM

In electric furnace steelmaking, the use of high density DRI/HBI can eliminate the need for a second or third scrap charge. This results in lower energy losses, more power on-time and improved productivity.

what does "more power on-time" mean here?

Wingman - I know absolutely nothing about furnace steel making but I would interpret it as "the power is kept on for more of the time".

I agree Kaisan. Maybe the term we're looking for is duty-cycle.
