Polyethylene Welding

My company makes marine hulls using Polyethylene sheet material .

We use big sheets - 8' x 4' , 1/4" thick.

We need to know if ther is a hand-held electric wire element plastic welding tool

that would melt join these sheets edge-to-edge .

The most common method is to use an electric/hot air gun and plastic filler rod. Bevel the edges to accept the rod. Then shave off any excess.

We used to make chem etchers this way.

Melting the two edges and then pressing the sheets together can be accomplished, but hand welding is more common. You'd need a full width heating element that is teflon coated to prevent the melted plastic from sticking.
