Measurement of Plastics

04/20/2010 1:02 AM

Hello Guys,

I was informed that for measurement of plastics, special instruments like vernier calipers for measuring plastics etc., were available in the market. I was not able to find any information whatsoever from Google. Can anyone guide me in this? If yes, I would very much like to acquire one.....

Thanks

talaus

Maybe someone is pulling your leg?
Measuring plastic is much like measuring anything else it depends on sensible use of the measuring tools.
If you want an interesting task try measuring some EPDM peristaltic tube...
KrisDelTM do special custard measurement devices.

There are no "special" calipers for plastic.

There are hardness measurements that use a penetration probe (Shore hardness) measuring tool.

A plastic caliper might expand and contract with temperature as the plastic part would, but measuring equipment should be as thermally stable as possible.

Dear friend,

The plastic is produced and is in common use from thickness of 25 microns. For general industrial purposes you can have measurements from 0.02 mm onwards by using a vernier caliper. But the reading does not seem reliable on measurements of object with dimensions less than 0.1 mm.

Regards.
