When it comes to software, always best to use all the latest and newest possible that you can found on the net. An alternative on how to read information´s about registry files is very simple:

http://en.kioskea.net/faq/589-how-to-open-registry

Windows used to check on your installed softwares at start up, and when all the info´s are correct about them, they should be able to run also.

To see when any software was installed is very simple, because you just right click on any file in Windows and you can read the date when the file was created is when you have installed that software which that file belong to.

You may could use " Visual Studio 2010 " to make just changes in any file or program you want to, but when you are making modifications to registry files then there are risks that those programs which you have modified the registry in, will no longer be able start up because Windows will not aloud them to. Many software are coded, and the code works like a simple power swich, when correct the program is running, when not it will stop. These codes are sometimes also working with a timer in order knows when to swich on and off....

To see when a program or software was installed go to your control panel and click on ad remove icon, when this boots up it will tell you the date the program or software was installed on that computer. Do not click it unless you know what you are doing or it could be removed. Just exit when the info is obtained.
