Acceptable configurations for mitered elbows are usually descibed in the code of construction for the system.

Although it is not your code of construction, ASME B31.1 & B31.3 contain acceptable configurations.

Normally, a 3, 4 or 5 piece miter is used.

A mitered elbow has much more pressure drop than a smooth wrought elbow

By the way, a single, square joint configuration (a single weld) is NEVER ACCEPTABLE in any code.

Try www.pipingoffice.com....

Oh yeah....pay for the software....don't steal it !!!
