Ball Bearing Rating Meaning

04/28/2010 4:35 AM

Hi,

I have to replace a bearing in my car but it has an odd rating on it, could anyone tell me the meaning of a ball bearing rating i.e 6006DU3X

6006= is the size of bearing

DU= indicates the Rubber Seal

BUT

What does 3X stands for????

Please Help

Re: Query About a Ball Bearing (Pls Help)

It would help a great deal if you told us the make of the bearing.

My guess is that you are talking about an NSK deep groove ball bearing of 30 mm diameter. If that is the case then:

  • DU as you say is a single rubber contact seal.
  • 3 is probably an ABEC 3 tolerance.
  • X for many bearing manufacturers indicates a modified design of some sort. Can't be ar**d to look it up for NSK right now.

You got it right in that the DU is rubber seal. The 3x is the tolerance of the balls to the casings. Typically the 3x becomes C3 on SKF bearings and is a very general "high efficiency" bearing and is typically used on equipment experiencing some vibration. Likewise you would get a P5 and P6 which will be even better but specially for use in high speed equipment ( These have brass cages as standard) I f we know the make of your bearing we can bemore positive about the answer.

I'm happy that it worked out. If the shopkeeper inadvertently confirmed the C3 rating i don't need to follow it up any further. You may consider a rating on my post? regards

Yes you may, but bear in mind that a P6 will cost you a lot more and it may be unsuitable for your purpose. P6's are typically used in heavy high speed applications, such as industrial centrifuges.
