Dear Users, Below find a link to download a free welding software providing outlined guidelines for welding of selected carbon and low alloy steel piping and its components as per ASME B31.3 http://www.thepetrostreet.com/database/weldshop.zip This would be helping Welding /Inspection personnel to have a quick reference. Meaning no disrespect, but there is no address or corporate identity information on this site.

Personally, I would neither register on a site that doesn't give me its own directory information, nor would i be cruising there for free downloads.

The fact that terms and conditions of use are as per the laws of The Islamic Republic of Pakistan, raises an eyebrow to those of us in the west who have no idea what exactly that might mean.

We appreciate the generosity, but anonymous sites in foreign countries offerring free downloads in zip files is a bit "out there" for my taste.

Do you have a question for us, or was this post just an offer to us to visit your very similar site?

Milo

Milo, I do not understand what happened to you after visiting the site. If you are not willing in check this software out, just do not do that but giving such meaningless comments would neither affect me nor anybody else. Like other forums across the globe, we are also operating and feel that something useful which we may offer should be shared with those doing the same job. There was no reason in being so rude.

No rudeness intended.

I just pointed out that there is no genuine institutional identification/traceability visible on the site, just the branding and tagline.

So we don't know who is "ultimately" behind this "free downloadable zip file" as a last resort.

We know that this site(CR4) for instance, originates via global spec and we can find 'directory information'- ie corporate info, and non email contact info and physical address.

I have no doubt that you feel that your weld calculator is of value.

I am saying that from the eyes of your intended audience, downloading of software from sites that do not share their corporate /organizational identity and address is Seen as perhaps more of a risk than you may have considered.

If my son downloaded a zip file from an unknown website, well, he would know better. That site is "unknown" in that it doesn't give it's own Identification info.

A little more "transparency" or disclosure" might make your offerring seem more credible.

Again, no offense intended. In a world of spyware, botnets, and self replicating viruses, and social engineered viruses and trojan downloads, most folks (and every company's IT Policies) would Prohibit the downloading of "anonymous ZIP files."

That's the view from one of your intended "recipients."
