Hurricane Dennis damages oil platform

07/12/2005 2:24 PM

British Petroleum (BP) is reporting that its Thunder Horse oil drilling platform (scheduled to go online in 2007) in the Gulf of Mexico was damaged by Hurricane Dennis. It was listing between 20-30 degrees on Sunday, although Company spokesman Ronnie Chappell said that Thunder Horse had appeared to stabilize on Monday. He said it was too early to determine if inaugural production would be delayed.

I wonder which day the accompanying picture was taken, because it suggests a severely damaged facility.

Tilt

That is photo must be the on that is 20-30% tilted. Damage might not be too bad if the only thing that needs to be fixed is the legs. Just be thankful there was no oil being pumped or there would have been a major oil spill. I wonder what kind of protection those rigs have against hurricanes.
