Legal Device to Tell Cell Phone Users to Stop

05/04/2010 2:49 PM

This device is only a receiver, it monitors Cell phones in hospitals etc and sounds a pre-recorded message if a phone is detected this is legal as it does not listen to conversations just the radio waves, so no use for bugging.

you record your own message " whoever is using their mobile phone please turn it off or you will be removed from the building " or somthing like this

A product like this would be more of an annoyance for the employees at the facilities instead of the offender. Airplanes now require cell phones to be off on all flights I have been on. I can see airlines using this to verify that all phone are off maybe if tweaked for extra sensitivity for the handshake signal between idle cell phones and the tower carrier that ques phones occasionally to update them and trade off tower identifications with them. This lower level beacon communication is how your cell phone displays roaming etc when you move out of your normal area etc.

I agree it would annoy me as well it would be better to let them answer the phone, As you say it would be going off every time the handset picked up a signal.

The main reason though for posting it was because there was a question about jamming cell phones which me and another said was illegal in us and uk.

and this i thought would satisfy the guest

The original thread was removed for obvious reasons.

Just trying to be helpful

Some years ago went to a factory where it was TRULY necessary for cell phones to be turned off, not silent, but absolutely off.

There were buckets with water in them around the site. Some had cell phones in the bottom of them. Signs at the front office and site entry warned that cell phones should be left at reception or else turned off. Any phone found to be "on" in the faciltity would be sent for a swim with lovely pictographs showing the meaning of the message.

Cell phone use is becoming a little like smoking was. Some people think they have the right to use them anywhere. In some instances it's just a case of not respecting those around, but in some cases the need is real, but people think they are special and the rule doesn't apply to them.

Indeed the last warehouse i worked in had signs every where saying do not use and do bring phones into this area, Reason they occasionally caused the fork lift trucks to do strange things, And was thus dangerous.

I often saw people on trucks travel the length of the warehouse staring into their phones texting

"it monitors Cell phones in hospitals"

Funny, when you mention it, have you ever noticed, that doctors are some of the worst offenders.

Similar devices have been available for a long time for use in theatres, concert halls and TV studios. Useful to check the audience don't have phones on before the performance starts.

What about cell phones that have 'auto update' lol And other features that are not apparent to the user...
