Encasing Alkalkine Metals: Better Bathrooms & More

The quest for a better toilet bowl freshener has led Michael Lefenfeld, a 25-year old graduate student in molecular electronics, to find a way to encase sodium and other explosive alkaline metals in a powered form of silicion gel, making them much safer to handle. Researchers believe that Lefenfeld's discovery could help pharmaceutical manufacturers sharply reduce the cost of producing antibiotics and other types of drugs.
