Crude Oil Fired Generators

05/07/2010 2:27 AM

I am interested in developing a 20MW Crude Oil Fired Power Plant that can be expanded in the future up to 100MW. Does any one have any experience on the shortcomings of running this type of plant and any recommendation on the best generator manufacturers to look for? Thanks

Emma2010, welcome to the forum.

What kind of Power Plant do you want to fire with Crude Oil and what type of crude oil are you contemplating using to fire whatever kind of plant you are contemplating?

Are you wanting to run boilers on crude and use steam turbines as your prime movers or are you looking to run gas turbines? Where in the world do you want to do this?

it seems they have some unrefined light crude that they wan to use to make electricity.

Crude is often not suitable to use in a turbine, due to high ash etc, so a steam based method where the crude is burned in a boiler and the steam is used to run the steam turbine.

This is a mature technology and off the shelf units are buyable any where.

ABB is one

Yeah, agreed, but how do they want to use it? Bonny light can be used in GTG's, but is that what he wants to achieve or does (s)he want to go the way you suggest. Can't be bothered with this until the OP makes some sense of the question.

HFO based Engine coupled with alternator may gives you highet Electrical Efficiency. You may opt for world leaders like CATERPILLAR or WARTSILLA.

OP talks of crude - HFO is very different.

ecoPHASER thermal reactor (combustor) and WOWGen power-generation system

www.ecophaser.ca

www.wowenergies.com

The thermal reactor generates heat at 2,300 F (1,250 C) from solid, liquid, or gaseous fuels, and the WOWGen is similar to a steam-turbine based system but it uses no water and doesn't need a steam-engineer crew to operate.

Tell them Stratos sent you.

Cheers! DZ

What kind of fuel oil do the giant supertankers use to power their engines? It is very heavy stuff, may in fact be crude, but don't know.If it is crude, your solution is available. Not cheap, but available.
