Alcohol as a Fuel

05/10/2010 10:43 AM

We are involved in a government licensed distilling facility. Currently we are distilling farm grown sorghum. We are looking for a sources of raw material that is a waste product from a manufacturer or distributor. We are going to grow a crop of sugar beets. As more farms in our area convert to ethanol we will need a good consistent supply and are looking at a vareity of options. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I am thinking and designing a procedure to obtain ethanol from a very abundant industrial waste. I need to build some laboratory equipment to carry out tests.

If successfully tested, I will evaluate the cost of the produced ethanol. I advance that the economical balance will be good.

I will patent the procedure and equipment when I am sure it works.

As you probably know there is no need of any prototype neither any testing results to apply for a patent.

¿Which kind of an agreement could you propose me to develop with your help my envisaged procedure, in case you are inclined to accept my cooperation.?

I think growing food crops for the purpose of making fuel is slap in the face to those people dying of hunger. Since you are in the US, there are plenty of sources of waste to create fuel. It is just a matter of building your distillation factory close to the sources of waste. There is plenty of vegetative matter that is plowed back into the fields where I live.

Most of the muslim countries do not allow production of alcohol at any level.

Just an example, in Pakistan discarded slag product from sugar factories (if I am not wrong it is caled molasis) is exported to other countries.

I cannot help you in any way but I mean you should look beyound the boarders for raw material.

I have a hard time seeing how a crop biofuel is sustainable. The fuel cost for the tractore, the fertilizers, the conversion expense are substantial. Long term effects are those of any intensive agriculture (soil and water quality decline). Looking at the data I saw on switchgrass, which is supposed to be more efficient than corn, was not promising.

The Biomass bill in Congress also calls for chipping up National Forest lands for fuel, a frightening thought.
