Cooler Jacket

05/17/2010 7:05 AM

why cant we have jacket(water) to avoid hotness in summer just like having sweater to avoid cold i hope we can have jacket by fixing small tubes inside jacket by circulating water or any other liquid material which can take of excess temperature in body just like water pipes around wall to reduce temperature what do u say post your comments

we can also use this jacket in cold season also by circulating hot water in the tubes to regulate temperatureof the body

I am not sure how the water is going to be circulated in the tubes.

Would having a pumping/circulating system be feasible in such a case? what about the cost? what about the weight? Where is the heat absorbed be gonna pumped to? if the heat is pumped to the atmosphere wouldn't it make the ambient hotter and the parts not covered by this jacket (face etc) feel that heat?

When I worked in the HAZ-MAT industry years ago we had cooling vests that were worn under our Tyvek suits. These vests had pockets to hold cold (freezer) packs. Just like we use to keep our lunches cold. But they only last for a short time.

Your idea is quite easy to make:

- a circulation pump for the circuit a heat pump to either take the heat from water and direct it to environmental air in summer or the opposite in winter

- a battery power pack for the supply of the 2 motors.

Now you have to go from the idea which ONLY qualitative to the quantitative definition of the components. The 1st step is to compute the heat transfer requirements and the needed power and the second to optimize the power pack since as you can well imagine its weight will be the main obstacle to the acceptance of the idea.

By the way the idea is already used in the astronauts protection suits!

You mean like this?

Racing car drivers, fire fighters, and others have used cool suits for years....

NASA developed a coolant circulation vest for temperature control in the astronauts' space suits. The U.S. Army uses a similar type system for a cooling vest for use under chemical protection suits.

A number of companies make cooling vests/suits for fighter pilots. These can plug into an onboard cooling system when they are in the aircraft, and a portable cooling system when they are outside the aircraft. Compact, lightweight and reliable, but not cheap!

If you have a supply of water and relatively low humidity, evaporative cooling would be fairly efficient. Possibly the new fabrics that "breathe" but stay dry on the inside would be useable.

Another idea would be using TEC (Peltier) devices. You still have to dump the heat somewhere.

I did some work on thermal jacket operated by battery. The basic principal was based on electrical blanket.

It works but the cost of heating and heat loss is so excessive was not worth pursuing more than in t he fancy land.

Being a technologiest few thing we learned and one is what ever we make needs to be light and makes our life little easy and is reusable.

This model we used in computer to bring down the weight and cost and one can keep using it and is same with any other product.

Having motor and cooling fan and vins may not work but ideas have no end this allow us to think about materials which will not allow heat to dissipate and body will keep the temperature and no need for the cooling or heating to enjoy nature.

About 30 years ago, I believe it was popular mechanics that tested a consumer quality version. Cool water was circulated thru tubes in an undergarment. The wearer also carried a small pack with a shoulder sling. The pack had in it a battery powered pump and a small ice box that you filled from your refrigerator.

They tested it by walking around a city during the hot humid summer with a suit on. They said it worked well until all your ice melted.

Our body is itself act as evaporative cooler. In winter as we know we all uses a warm clothing which maintain our body tempareture; in the same sense but in a reverse purpose can you do a fabric which can keeps your body cool in summer irreapective to the atmospheric condition?
