Singlaatul,

I think I understand your question.

You want to know when to use the Jacketed "ELL", the Jacketed "Tee" or the Jacketed "Cross".

It has more to do with the type of product inside the inner pipe and it's probability or potential for "setting-up" to the point of having to "Drill" it out if you lose the heating effect in the jacket.

If you have jacketed Sulfur lines and they set-up on you it is near impossible to "Melt" the line to reestablish flow. You would want to be able to pull off the blind flanges and drill the sulfur out. So you would lean toward the use of the "Tee" or the "Cross".

If you had a commodity that did not "Set-up" on you but you needed better heat input than tracing, you would use jacketed pipe systems with the "ELL" configuration.
