Problem with throttle response after few miles of driving- carburettor model car

05/20/2010 6:11 AM

One of my friends has a 90s model Maruti 800... After driving the car for sometime... roughly for about 25 Km, the vehicle shows a hesitation to pull... the throttle response gets poor... What are the possible reasons for this???... Pls help!

Don't know the first thing about this make car, but a fuel filter that needs to be replaced can produce similar symptoms. Have you checked this?

Thnx guest.. Actually the fuel filter was recently replaced and doesnt seem to be in trouble... In fact there is no problem driving the car for the first few kilometers... only after a sufficient period of heating the problem arises... pulling capacity reduces then!

Two things; 1. Don't know at this time if your vehicle's problem is heat related.

2. Something to check, could a fuel line hose from the tank to the fuel pump be kinking/ closing, getting soft? I believe the line from the tank to the fuel pump would be under vacuum when the engine is running. Let us know if you need more assistance.

Thanks guest... I guess the problem is heat related... coz other things seem to be perfectly all right... is there any possibility for heat to affect the carburettor's working (problems like vapour lock or something like that)???... pls help!

It's possible to be heat related ,but until you physically check the supply lines you can't assume everything else seems to be working so it's ok. The line from the fuel pump to the carburetor may be too close to a source of heat like exhaust manifold or engine itself. Did you change the fuel filter as a regular routine maintenance item?

As u said there might be a proximity between fuel lines and some heat source... i ll check that... also the fuel filter was changed as per schedule... what if it's not changed as per schedule?? (just want to know the consequences)... also does heat affect carburettor working???.. if so how???

The carburetor is supposed to mix fuel and air. If the fuel gets so hot it vaporizes before the carburetor can do its job. It cannot mix vapor and air. It must be liquid and air.
