Yes Its ASTM standard material. You can get your required information from ASMEII Part D (Material properties) and also from CAsti Series (simplified form of ASMEII Part D). Also you can use a software "Key to Steel" property of Key to Steel (now-a-days its called Key to Metals)

Hi,

A672 is an ASTM specification for welded pipe, so the chemical composition is the same as the base plate used. In the case you mention, B70, the plate must be A515 Gr.70 (plain carbon steel, killed). Nominal composition for thicknesses < 1" are (heat analysis)

C: 0.31 Max

Mn:1,20 Max

P and S Max: 0.035 each

Si: 0.15 ÷ 0.40

For thicker plates, the C content can be a bit higher (0.33 up to 2" and 0.35 for thicker)

Mechanical properties of the plate are:

TS: 70 ÷ 90 ksi

YS: 38 ksi (min)

Elong (2"): 21% min

Weld properties must be at least equal to that of the plate.

Weld must be full length RX examined according to UW-51

Kind regards
