Roaches in Septic-Updates, Anyone?

05/26/2010 11:37 AM

I've been following the thread regarding eliminating roaches from septic systems. Last post was a year ago, and I was wondering if anyone has either found alternative solutions not already mentioned or are there any updates regarding what has already been posted; i.e. results, modifications, etc. Thanks for any and all responses. We need help. What we are considering doing right now is 1-have tank pumped; 2-have chemical products sprayed (bombs) into "empty" tank; 3-adding a chemical to prevent the roaches' reproduction. The tank was installed in 1969 and pumped when we bought the house in 2005. (Didn't know we had a problem at that time.)

Pour a couple of boxes of 20 Mule Team Borax into the tank. It will kill the gut microbes that the cockroach uses to digest food and they will all starve to death. You can bomb it to kill the evident roaches, but the eggs won't be affected, so do both. Bomb and treat with borax.

Thanks! Will try both. How effective will the borax be if it becomes wet from the sludge remaining in the tank after pumping? I thought about finding a way to also "fog/bomb" the borax into the tank so it adheres to the tank walls and the roaches would inevitably walk over it. (Any thoughts on how to do this?) Will the borax, in any way, harm the septic system (ie crystalize and plug up the system)?

Guest has a good answer; roach gestation period is about three days so bomb every three days.

A link to the original thread would have been useful.
