Dragon Naturall Speaking...

05/28/2010 10:10 AM

Because of a medical condition, it has become very hard to sit at my desk. I have been working from home with my employers blessing.

Only comfortable position is now prone with a heating pad on the sore joint. Typing while prone is next to impossible and I am looking for alternative ways to stay productive.

Anyone try Dragon Naturally Speaking lately and have anything to offer on how well or how badly it works. Not looking for a sales pitch... just the truth.

I tried Dragon a few years ago and wasn't pleased with the results, but others gave it good reviews more recently afaik.

Sorry to hear about your problem - hope it gets well soon.

I experimented with Dragon Naturally Speaking Pro several years ago. The initial training (the software has to learn your vocal inflections) is a bit tedious, but overall I was very impressed. It continues to "learn" as you use it, so it gets better as time goes by. It did require considerable effort in the beginning -- lots of manual editing/correcting. I imagine the new versions are considerably better.

I have noticed that many reviewers recommend upgrading the microphone.

I have tried many types of voice recognition software and I was not satisfied with any of them.
