Can Silicon Be Produced Without an Arc Furnace

05/28/2010 4:41 PM

To manufacture silicon (e grade), 670 kWh per kg is required, which is equivalant to 800 days of solar days radiation. You are burning fossil fuel before reimbersment and there seems to be a low ROI or saving of resources. There is a need of alternate methods to produce photovoltaic cells.

There is absolutely a need to manufacture PV cells more efficently and with reduced undesireable byproducts. GA?

using solar furnece we can save lot of electrical energy, simulteneously we can use renewable carbon i. e. wood to get MG Si. Further purification done by chemically
