Why 5L in API 5L?

Could anyone please let me know why the length of 5L is mentioned in the code name of API 5L?

That "5L" does NOT relate to length.

It is part of the Spec designation for a quality of pipe that has a specific material, a specific manufacturing process, specific testing requirements and specific Design parameters.
